New Delhi: Five pilgrims died during the Kanwar Yatra. They were electrocuted while they were marching in Uttar Pradesh’s Merut. One pilgrim died on the spot. Four more deaths were later reported. Another 42 people were seriously injured in the electrocution.
Doctors expect the death toll to rise further.
According to reports, a group of pilgrims were returning from Haridwar with Ganga water around 8 pm on Saturday. The kanwar yatra is on its way to the village. Their car got stuck in an open wire of electricity hanging dangerously. A man was immediately electrocuted. Several people were electrocuted while trying to rescue him. At the same time, about 40 pilgrims were injured.
