Guwahati : A new journey will begin today. The new building of the Assembly will be formally opened today. The new building has been renovated. It may be recalled that the capital was brought to Dispur from Shillong in 1972. On March 16, 1973, the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly began from the present location. The newly constructed permanent building of the newly constructed assembly at the end of 51 long years has been beautifully decorated.
The symplex structure is in charge of the construction of the assembly building which can accommodate 180 members and JD Creation is in charge of its interior design. The cost of construction of this new building of about 18,459 square meters was initially estimated at Rs 234 crore but later the cost increased to Rs 351 crore. Seven lifts, a glass lift and an escalator have been added to the new assembly building. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will formally inaugurate the new building of the Assam Legislative Assembly today.
