New Delhi: The modernization work started several years ago. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has started deploying ‘superior’ MiG-29 fighter jets along the Kashmir-Ladakh border. A squadron of new MiG-29s has been deployed at the Srinagar airbase to prevent possible attacks by China and Pakistan.
The advanced MiG-29 aircraft have been handed over to the Tridents Squadron deployed in Srinagar, the IAF said. Until now, the squadron, known as the ‘Keeper of the North’, used the MiG-21, a Russian fighter aircraft made in the 1960s.
Squadron Leader Vipul Sharma, a pilot of the Indian Air Force, told news agency ANI that due to the strategic location, it is possible to monitor both the borders from the Srinagar Air Force base. “With the help of modern MiG-29s, we will be able to face the enemy on both fronts. ’’
