New Delhi: Women can sue domestic violence even if they are in a live-in relationship, which does not require marriage recognition. This was stated by the Kerala High Court in the wake of a case. The court said that any woman can file a case under the Domestic Violence Act. He doesn’t have to be married.
Stating that he was in a live-in relationship, a man had sought the removal of the charges against him under the Domestic Violence Act. He had approached the High Court after hearing the case in the family court. However, the court dismissed the man’s complaint.
The judge observed that if a woman is in a domestic relationship with a man, she can file a case under the Domestic Violence Act against any kind of violence by that man.
