Imphal: Amid over 100 days of violence in Manipur, 10 tribal MLAs from the state have refused to attend the assembly session beginning August 21. According to the Economic Times, these MLAs, citing security reasons, said that the assembly is in Imphal, a Meitei-dominated area.
Of the 10 MLAs, seven are from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The same 10 MLAs had recently submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that separate posts of chief secretary and director general of police or its equivalent be created for the five hill districts.
