New Delhi: Tomatoes will be available at Tk 50 from August 15, not Tk 70-80. The Modi government had made such an announcement on August 14 to bring relief to the middle class. Now, the Centre has said that the price of tomatoes has come down further. From August 20, it will cost Tk 40 per kg to buy tomatoes.
The National Cooperative Buyers Federation (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) have directed the consumer affairs department to sell tomatoes at Rs 40 per kg. In fact, the price of tomatoes has started falling in the wholesale market. That is why this initiative has been taken by the Centre. The government hopes that while the price of tomatoes has gone up to around Rs 300 per kg, such an initiative will bring a lot of relief to the middle class.
