Guwahati:A cabinet meeting of the Assam government was held in Guwahati today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed a press conference after the cabinet meeting held at Koinadhara.
At the press conference, the Chief Minister briefed about the decision taken in the cabinet meeting today. Chief Minister Sharma said that from now on, the gram panchayat elections will be completely apolitical. Only a non-political person can become the president of a panchayat. Lakhimpur College, Kokrajhar College, JB College in Jorhat etc. will be declared as state universities. AFSPA will be completely withdrawn from Assam. He added that Biswanath district will be formally reopened and so will the rest. The Chief Minister will meet the Minister of Power, Government of India tomorrow to take a dig at the power tariff in Assam.
