Guwahati:The Ministry of Education, Government of India has nominated Dr. Dibyajyoti Mahanta, eminent educationist of Assam and Dean of the Centers of Study of Krishnakanta Handique State Open University as chairman of the Regional Committee of the Eastern Region of the National Council for Teacher Education of India .
As the Supreme Council for Teacher Training, NCTE divides the whole of India into four regions and a part of them is for the Eastern Region. The tenure of this committee is for 2 years. It may be mentioned that Dr. Mahanta is the Chairman of the Children’s Education Society, Assam and an honorary national member of Intangible Culture and Heritage under the Government’s Sangeet Natak Akademi. Dr. Mahanta was also a member of the high powered State Task Force constituted by the Government of Assam for NEP 2020 and later a member of the School Curriculum Framework of Assam. It is worth mentioning that In addition to being an educated and cultured person and a leading expert in the field of education, Dr. Mahanta has an academic contribution as a writer of mathematics books from the first grade to the graduate level. He is a leading content person for the training of teachers and students in the field of mathematics. The education fraternity of Assam has expressed great satisfaction over the selection of Dr. Mahata as the chairman of the Eastern Committee of NCTE.
