Four sanitation workers die in Gujarat

New Delhi: Despite thousands of directions issued by the Apex Court and the Centre, the deaths of sanitation workers continue in the country. Four sanitation workers were killed while cleaning a septic tank in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. A sanitation worker died of suffocation while cleaning the mess of a factory near Palsana-Katodra road in Surat.


According to police, the accident took place on Tuesday evening while cleaning the septic tank of the factory. The first two workers lost consciousness due to poisonous gas while cleaning the mess. Two other workers came to their rescue. He also fell ill as soon as he got inside. The people present somehow rescued the four and admitted them to a nearby hospital. However, doctors said that the workers have already died. The four deceased labourers were residents of Bihar, a local police station official said. Efforts are on to ascertain their details. The family will be notified as soon as they are known.
