New Delhi: Lok Sabha elections are just a few months away. Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah again raised the CAA issue at a rally in Dharmatala. His challenge is that CAA means the Amended Citizenship Act is the law of the entire country. The Government of Bengal will not be able to stop this law.
The BJP had earlier assured citizenship to the Matuas in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. After returning to power, the law was also passed in Parliament. This was followed by protests across the country. After that, instead of implementing the amended Citizenship Act, the law was sent to the cold storage on the pretext of corona epidemic. Since then, discontent has been growing among the Matuas in the state.
