New Delhi: Just like the script of a popular Bollywood movie. At the age of 18, he was jailed for killing two constables and looting rifles. His ‘alibi’ was irrefutable. But it did not listen, it could not be proved in court. But young Amit Chaudhary could not accept jail term for the crime he did not commit. He understood that the only way to get rid of this dark life is ‘the light of knowledge’. Not him, knowledge of the law. The practice began in the prison cell. Finally, after 12 years, he himself was released. Amit returned to the light. Although you will not get back the precious 12 years of life, that is the pity.
Amit hails from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. In 2011, constables Krishnapal and Amit Kumar were killed. Their rifles were stolen. The finger of accusation is pointed at the notorious Kyle Gang. And bad luck, Amit Chaudhary was also branded as a member of the gang. Because the then Chief Minister Mayawati had ordered immediate arrest of the culprits. He was in Shamli district with his sister. But the police did not listen. Along with 16 others, he was also accused of being a criminal. Strict sections like the Indian Penal Code and the National Security Act were imposed against them. The next two years were like a nightmare. Amit, son of a farmer from Kirthal village in Baghpat, had his future plunged into darkness within the four walls of Muzaffarnagar jail. Gangsters like Anil Dujana and Vicky Tyagi (both killed in an encounter) tried to get him into their gang. But the jailer shifted Amit to another place.
Although he was released on bail from jail in 2013, the stigma of crime remained on his head. My dream was to join the army. But realizing that it was not possible, the family chose the path of law so that they could keep their heads high in the society. One by one, BA, LLB, LLM passed. He also passed the Bar Council examination. The struggle to free himself from the stigma began. The police officer could not identify him. More evidence was presented. The judge, no doubt, acquitted him and 12 others.
