New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Lok Sabha Secretariat on a plea filed by Mahua Moitra challenging her disqualification as an MP. The top court asked why Mahua’s MP post was disqualified. The secretariat has been asked to reply within three weeks. The next hearing of the case is after March 11.
In the Lok Sabha, allegations of money were raised against Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra. Following the recommendation of the Ethics Committee, the TMC MP was expelled from the Lok Sabha. He was not even given a chance to defend himself. After this, Mahua approached the Supreme Court. Last month, Moitra had sought an early hearing of the case. However, the plea was rejected. The Supreme Court heard the case on Wednesday.
