Guwahati:Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda made a pointed accusation against the Congress party, stating that during its tenure at the Centre, it had dismissed 90 state governments by misusing Article 356 of the Indian Constitution.

He highlighted historical instances where Congress, under Indira Gandhi’s leadership, had used this constitutional provision to dismiss state governments, including the first elected left government in Kerala, which was not favoured by Jawaharlal Nehru. In light of these historical precedents, JP Nadda’s hypothetical question about the potential toppling of Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government in Assam carries significant weight. Targeting the Congress, BJP president JP Nadda on Wednesday said those who spared no effort in doing injustice to society are now thinking about holding a ‘nyay yatra’.”…PM Modi gave constitutional status to OBC. But they (Congress) only want votes. Nehru had stopped Ambedkar from entering the Parliament. After committing so much injustice with OBCs, now they are taking out ‘Nyay Yatra’…Congress dismissed the elected government 90 times by using Article 356. These people are taking out ‘Nyay Yatra’? What if someone topples Himanta Biswa Sarma’s govt tomorrow?… When Rahul Gandhi comes here during his yatra you should ask him about the 1984 anti-sikh riots…”Earlier in December 2023, the Congress announced it would hold a ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra’ led by Rahul Gandhi from Manipur to Mumbai, passing through 14 states and 85 districts from east to west of India in 67 days, beginning January 14. The exercise is being seen as the party’s attempt to rally support ahead of the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
