Jammu:Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the renovated old Habba Kadal bridge in downtown area in Srinagar. He also laid the foundation stone of the Jhelum Riverfront Phase-II.

This is part of an action plan to promote tourism, especially in heritage places like downtown, which was once the epicentre of separatism and stone-pelting. The government is reviving the heritage building and other tourist attractions in Srinagar city and creating employment opportunities for the youth. Habba Kadal was considered a hotbed of militant activities, particularly for the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and Al-Umar militant organisation. Businessman Satish Tikoo was allegedly shot dead outside his residence in Karfalli area of Habba Kadal area of Srinagar on February 2, 1990 by JKLF terrorist Bitta Karate.
