Imphal: Terrible incident in Manipur. An Assam Rifles jawan opened fire on his colleagues. Six soldiers were injured in the incident. The accused then attempted suicide by shooting himself. The injured jawans have been admitted to an army hospital for treatment. Higher authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident.
According to police, the incident took place in Sajik Tampak area of southern Manipur late on Tuesday night. An Assam Rifles jawan opened fire on six of his colleagues. In the end, he tries to kill himself. Police officials said the incident had nothing to do with caste clashes in the state. The accused and the six injured jawans are not natives of Manipur. The administration has asked people not to indulge in any kind of provocation.
