New Delhi: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which conducted a survey in the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi, has said that there was a Hindu temple there before the construction of the existing structure.
In July last year, the Varanasi district court had directed the ASI to conduct a survey of the mosque premises.
The ASI’s report, now made public, states that on the basis of scientific study/survey in its four-month survey, study of architectural remains, features, artefacts, inscriptions, art and sculptures, it can be easily said that a Hindu temple existed before the existing structure was constructed here.
The Muslim side says that they also got a copy of the ASI report late at night and the report is now with the lawyers.
