New Delhi: They wrote, “Reel it, feel it.” And the danger was tied around that reel. In Karnataka, 38 medical students were ‘punished’ for making reels inside the hospital. The duration of housemanship training has been extended for 10 days.
Dr Basavaraj Bommanhilly, director of Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences, said, “The 38 students had created an Instagram reel on the hospital premises. Breaking such a law is a big mistake. Whatever they wanted to do, they could have done outside the hospital. Without causing inconvenience to patients. We didn’t allow anyone to do that.
”
The students, however, claimed that they had done so for the pre-graduation ceremony. Basavaraj said, “We have inquired about what they are saying. Their housemanship was supposed to last another 10-20 days. It has been extended by another 10 days. In the video, medical students were seen dancing to Hindi and Kannada songs. Their incident in the corridor of the hospital quickly went viral. There was a storm of condemnation. The question was raised as to how would-be doctors could do such a thing in a hospital.
A day earlier, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao suspended a doctor for conducting a pre-wedding photoshoot in the operation theatre. After that incident, this incident came to the fore.
