Let’s talk about UP first. In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 62 seats out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP. The Congress got only one seat (Rae Bareli). Smriti Irani won the Amethi seat by defeating Rahul Gandhi. Apart from Amethi and Rae Bareli, there is another high profile seat in UP – Pilibhit. This seat is currently held by BJP.
Pilibhit falls in the Rohilkhand area of UP. It was earlier part of Bareilly district. In 1879 it became a separate district. Its population is about 20 lakhs. There are sugar and paper mills here. Bamboo and zardozi work is also done well. The flute making here is very famous.
