New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the US envoy a day after he commented on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. On Tuesday, the US took an indirect strategy to increase pressure on India by opening its mouth on Kejriwal’s arrest. After that, the acting head of the US Embassy was summoned on Wednesday.
According to sources, top officials of the Ministry of External Affairs met the US envoy at North Block for about 40 minutes. However, there was no statement from either side on what was discussed at the meeting. However, it is believed that Washington’s comments on Kejriwal’s arrest are not being taken well by New Delhi. That’s what the U.S. ambassador was called.
Echoing Germany, the US said on Tuesday it was monitoring Kejriwal’s arrest. At the same time, the US administration indirectly put pressure on New Delhi to ensure that the AAP supremo’s trial is fair, transparent and timely.
