The Election Commission has changed the date of polling in Betul Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh due to the death of BSP candidate
New Delhi: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate from Madhya Pradesh’s Betul Lok Sabha constituency Ashok Balvi died of a heart attack on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the Election Commission announced the postponement of the date of voting in the constituency.
On Tuesday, Betul District Magistrate and District Election Officer Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi had announced the postponement of polling in the constituency. He announced a new voting day on Wednesday. He also said that the counting of votes in the constituency will remain unchanged on June 4 as announced earlier.The seat was scheduled to go to polls in the second phase on April 26. Betul Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls in the third phase on May 7, District Election Officer Suryavanshi said on Wednesday. According to Section 52 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, postponement of the election is mandatory in case of death of the candidate of a recognized political party at the national or state level.
