Named by Oman, “Remal” means sand in Arabic
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a meeting to review rescue and preparedness in view of the devastation of Cyclone Remal, which is expected to enter Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coast around midnight on Sunday. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by many top officials of various departments.
According to the IMD, Cyclone Remal will intensify into a cyclone before making landfall between West Bengal and Bangladesh at midnight on Sunday. Named by Oman, “Remal” means sand in Arabic. Assam and Meghalaya may also witness extremely heavy rains under the influence of Remal, while Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura may face heavy to very heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday.
