One person killed and five others seriously injured when the roof of the Delhi airport terminal collapsed in heavy rains

New Delhi: Heavy rains have brought life to a standstill in the country’s capital city of New Delhi. The roof of the airport terminal suddenly collapsed in the rain. The accident killed one person and seriously injured five others. Delhi Airport Terminal 1 has been closed completely after the roof collapsed. Fire fighters have already arrived at the scene and started rescue operations. Heavy rains have started in Delhi since Friday morning. Around 5:30 a.m., a large section of the roof of Terminal 1 suddenly collapsed due to heavy rain.

A pole was also broken along with the roof. Basically, that part of the airport is a car park. Many cars and cabs were at the scene when the roof collapsed. There were also several vehicles damaged. Firefighters launched a rescue operation at the airport and managed to recover a deceased person from the wrecked vehicle. All flights from Terminal 1 have been suspended, the Delhi Airport Authority said in a statement.
