New Delhi: The NDA has finally reached its majority in the Rajya Sabha. The ruling NDA reached the majority limit in the Rajya Sabha today after several MPs were elected unopposed in the Upper House by-elections. The BJP has now reached 96 in the Rajya Sabha, bringing the NDA’s strength to 112 in the upper house.
Among the three elected unopposed are one MP each from NDA allies NCP and Rashtriya Lok Manch. The Congress also elected a member today, taking the number of opposition MPs in the upper house to 85. There are 245 seats in the Rajya Sabha, although eight are currently vacant. Four of these seats are vacant in Jammu and Kashmir. The House has a majority of 119 out of its current strength of The BJP candidates elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha include Mission Ranjan Das and Rameshwar Teli from Assam, Manan Kumar Mishra from Bihar, Kiran Chadhari from Haryana, George Kurien from Madhya Pradesh, Dhirya Shil Patil from Madhya Pradesh, Mamata Mohanty from Orissa and Ravneet Singh Bittu from Rajasthan , Rajiv Bhattacharya from Tripura and others.Abhishek Manu Singhvi of Congress was elected unopposed from Telangana. Nitin Patil of the NCP’s Ajit Pawar faction was elected from Maharashtra and Updendra Kushwaha of the RLM was elected to the Upper House from Bihar.
