RG Kar Medical College rape-murder case: Rijiju hit back at Mamata by sharing old letters on the fast track court issue

New Delhi: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has slammed Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the fast track courts. Sharing a letter on social media, Rijiju claimed that Mamata was requested to intervene in setting up a fast-track court to prevent abuse of women and children, yet she was reluctant to perform that ‘sacred duty’.

Recently, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding immediate punishment for the rapists. In response, Rijiju shared a letter in which he wrote in an ex-handle, “I am displeased with the way the Chief Minister of West Bengal has neglected the most sacred duty of providing speedy justice to women and children. This letter from 2021 clearly proves that. In 2018, Parliament passed tough laws to deal with heinous crimes like rape. The Bengal state government should have worked in this regard!’
