Kolkata: The West Bengal Assembly recently passed an anti-rape bill titled Aparajita .But the Raj Bhavan may not allow the ‘Aparajita’ bill passed in the Assembly. Governor CV Anand Bose has indicated that. “The state government has not sent any technical report with this bill,” the governor claimed. which is necessary to allow the bill to pass. The state has not sent any technical report despite knowing that.”

“The Bengal Aparajita Bill is not new,” Governor CV Anand Basu said on Thursday. This is an imitation of the Andhra, Arunachal and Maharashtra Women’s Protection Bills. These bills are now before the President. The Chief Minister deliberately introduced a similar bill despite knowing that.” “It is the duty of the state government to send the technical report along with the bill,” the Raj Bhavan said in a statement. The state government has not sent it. This is not the first time the state government has sent the bill to the Raj Bhavan for approval without sending the technical report several times before.” “The Governor has contacted the Chief Minister in this regard,” the statement added.
The West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed the ‘Aparajita Women and Children Bill’ (West Bengal Crimes Act Amendment Bill, 2024). The Bengal Bill also provides for the disposal of cases within a specified period of time for offenses like rape. As a rule, any bill passed by the Assembly is sent to the Raj Bhavan. When signed by the governor, the bill becomes law. If the Governor himself cannot take a decision on the bill, he can send it to the Presidential Palace. In such cases, the President makes the final decision. The bill was sent to the Raj Bhavan the day after it was passed.
