Golaghat Commerce College Achieves UGC Autonomous Status for a Decade
Golaghat Commerce College in Assam has received autonomous status from the University Grants Commission (UGC), a decision finalized in a meeting on August 27, 2024. This recognition, effective for ten years, will enhance the college’s academic independence, beginning with the 2024-2025 academic year and lasting until 2033-2034.
Guwahati: The autonomy empowers Golaghat Commerce College to develop its own curriculum, conduct examinations, and manage administrative functions according to the UGC’s Autonomous Colleges Regulations, 2023. This significant milestone is expected to elevate the institution’s educational standards and provide students with a more tailored learning experience. In response to this development, the Registrar of Dibrugarh University has been instructed to issue a formal notification within 30 days. It is crucial for the college to comply with all UGC regulations, as failure to do so could result in the revocation of its autonomous status. This new chapter for Golaghat Commerce College not only reflects its commitment to academic excellence but also positions it as a leader in higher education in the region. Stakeholders are optimistic that this autonomy will foster innovative teaching methods and improved academic outcomes for students.
