Nalbari’s Deputy Commissioner Shines in International Governance Dialogue with Mauritius

Smt. Barnali Deka, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari, represents Assam and Northeast India in a global governance discussion, emphasizing innovative administrative practices and women’s roles in leadership.

Guwahati : In a significant virtual event hosted by the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), Smt. Barnali Deka, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari, showcased her leadership on an international stage. This interaction featured a distinguished delegation from Mauritius and was organized under the aegis of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, part of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions.

Deka was the sole representative from Assam and the entire Northeast region, selected among just five officials from across India. As a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration, she drew on her extensive experience in district governance and innovative approaches to address pressing administrative challenges.

During her presentation, Deka emphasized the pivotal role District Collectors play in tackling governance issues, driving reforms, and implementing effective practices that align with the goals of the Prime Minister’s Awards. She also addressed the unique challenges women face in administrative positions, sharing her personal experiences on balancing leadership responsibilities with transformative initiatives.

Deka’s insights not only highlighted the importance of effective governance at the district level but also advocated for increased support for women in leadership roles, ultimately aiming for a more inclusive administrative landscape. Her participation in this international dialogue underscores the growing recognition of the Northeast region’s contributions to governance and reform in India.
