Guwahati:Kaziranga National Park has set a pioneering example in India by becoming the first national park and tiger reserve to implement the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating Index for accommodations like resorts and homestays. This initiative is a collaborative effort with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of India.The Swachhata Green Leaf Rating Index focuses on promoting sustainability in both solid and liquid waste management. It aims to foster eco-friendly tourism practices that play a vital role in protecting Kaziranga’s rich biodiversity while improving the overall experience for visitors.In addition, Assam is expected to see a significant rise in tourist arrivals in the 2024-25 season, as noted by Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah. His announcement coincided with the opening of Manas National Park for the current tourist season, which also marks World Tourism Day.“With its breathtaking landscapes and diverse wildlife, we anticipate a considerable increase in tourist numbers this season. This surge will not only promote eco-tourism but also benefit the local economy,” Baruah shared on the social media platform X.Echoing this sentiment, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that nearly one crore tourists visited Assam in the fiscal year 2023-24. “Assam is a region filled with natural beauty, spirituality, and abundant opportunities. In the last fiscal year, we welcomed around one crore tourists,” he stated, encouraging visitors to experience the allure of “#AwesomeAssam” during the festive season.
