In a significant step toward reconciliation, MLAs from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities will convene in New Delhi on October 15, 2023, following months of ethnic violence in Manipur.
New Delhi: In a notable development, several MLAs representing the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities are set to gather in New Delhi on October 15, 2023, for their first joint meeting since the outbreak of ethnic violence in Manipur last year. This meeting, supervised by the home ministry, aims to facilitate dialogue between the conflicting groups.Three Naga MLAs—Awangbou Newmai, L Dikho, and Ram Muivah—who are part of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), an ally of the ruling BJP in Manipur, will attend the discussions. The exact number of participating Meitei and Kuki MLAs remains uncertain, although some Meitei legislators from the BJP have already traveled to the capital.Officials indicate that this initiative is part of the Central Government’s ongoing efforts to address the crisis that has claimed over 200 lives since May 2023 and promote a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions.
