Guwahati: In a significant development, ten Ward Commissioners from the Tinsukia Municipality Board in Assam have initiated a no-confidence motion against Mayor Pabitra Gogoi on October 14, signaling rising internal tensions. The Ward Commissioners—Ashok Kumar Agarwal, Babul Sen, Mamta Kalwar, Dhiraj Singh, Payal Sharma, Pulak Chetia, Tarun Pratap Singh, Pushpa Singh, Pradeep Das, and Indra Roy—expressed their lack of confidence in a formal letter.
The board has requested that a special meeting be organized within 20 days to allow Mayor Gogoi to demonstrate his majority, in accordance with Section 43 of the Assam Municipal Act, 1956. The communication emphasized the urgency of convening this meeting promptly, reiterating the need to address the matter as stipulated by the law.
