Assam police initiate a search operation for Gautam Basumatary, a tea garden executive allegedly kidnapped by ULFA (I) in Tinsukia district, as investigations continue.

Guwahati: On October 24, police in Tinsukia district, Assam, commenced a search operation to locate Gautam Basumatary, a tea garden executive believed to have been abducted by suspected United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) (ULFA-I) militants. Basumatary, who served as a factory manager for Himalayan Tea Company in Jagun, was reportedly taken by a group of five armed individuals.As of now, no ransom demand has been made, but authorities are actively analyzing CCTV footage from the tea factory to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the abduction. Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Abhijit Dilip confirmed that the incident was reported to the Jagun police station around 1:30 AM. Following this, an investigation was promptly launched, and law enforcement has been tracking the route taken by the assailants.In addition to the search operations in the Tinsukia area, police have sealed off the border with Arunachal Pradesh to prevent the suspects from fleeing. The situation remains tense as the authorities work diligently to ensure Basumatary’s safe return and apprehend those responsible for this alarming incident.
