Guwahati:Cyclone Dana is forecasted to affect Assam and various northeastern states with rainfall in the upcoming days. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati reported that moderate rain is anticipated in Mizoram and Tripura, while light to moderate rainfall is expected across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur.Arunachal Pradesh may experience light rain at isolated locations as the system evolves. The bulletin from the Weather Department notes that a low-pressure area over the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression, likely to become a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by Thursday.Officials warn of heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Assam and the northeastern region on Thursday, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Weather conditions are predicted to improve from October 27 for most northeastern states, except for Tripura.In preparation for Cyclone Dana, authorities have heightened security measures. The cyclone is projected to make landfall along the coast of West Bengal and Odisha, prompting the Indian Coast Guard to maintain readiness for emergencies. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has urged local legislators to collaborate on rescue and relief initiatives, with cyclone shelters identified for those at risk.
