Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced an ambitious initiative to establish 12 new police stations along the Indo-Bangladesh border. This strategic move aims to improve security measures and enhance coordination with central agencies in the region.The government is currently in the process of setting up 12 State Border Outposts, while proposals for nine additional Border Police Stations adjacent to the International Border are under active consideration. These developments will take place in several border districts, including Cachar, Karimganj, Dhubri, and South Salmara.In recent months, Assam’s proactive measures have already led to the interception of over 130 illegal immigrants, underscoring the need for stronger border management. By establishing these police stations, the state government aims to enhance surveillance and communication with national security agencies, ultimately contributing to improved law enforcement.Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the significance of these initiatives in maintaining peace and security across Assam. The new infrastructure is expected to address cross-border challenges and ensure the safety of residents living in these border areas.A recent incident on October 22 showcased the vigilance of the Assam Police, who successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt. The police intercepted individuals identified as Hasmot Ali, Bithi Khatun, and Rima Khatun during the attempt and promptly pushed them back across the border.Sarma praised the state police for their swift and decisive action, noting that they have maintained heightened vigilance to counter illegal cross-border activities. This proactive approach underscores the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies to secure Assam’s borders and deter unauthorized entries effectively.With these initiatives, the Assam government is taking significant steps to fortify its borders, aiming for a safer and more secure environment for its residents.
