Assam is investing Rs 1,200 crore to enhance power transmission, focusing on rural areas. The initiative includes new infrastructure and safety upgrades to meet rising energy demands.
Guwahati: Assam is set to invest Rs 1,200 crore in a significant initiative aimed at upgrading the state’s power transmission system, particularly in rural regions. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that this ambitious project is designed to improve both the safety and reliability of electricity supply for the state’s residents.
In just 2024, Assam has already replaced over 12,000 kilometers of outdated low-tension (LT) lines with safer, covered conductors. Furthermore, the construction of 250 kilometers of new 11 kV lines will further enhance the power infrastructure.
The initiative is part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which also includes the installation of 489 new high-voltage transformers. These improvements are anticipated to address the increasing power demand while ensuring better voltage stability and a more reliable electricity supply. “This project will significantly strengthen our power infrastructure, enhancing both safety and service quality for all residents of Assam,” Sarma emphasized.
