The Indian men’s football team will clash with Malaysia in an international friendly on November 18 in Hyderabad, as they seek their first victory under coach Manolo Marquez.
New Delhi:In a highly anticipated friendly, the Indian men’s football team will take on Malaysia on November 18 at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, as confirmed by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The match was rescheduled from its original date of November 19, coinciding with the final FIFA international window of 2024, ensuring clubs will release players for national duty.
This encounter will mark coach Manolo Marquez’s fourth match in charge of the team, which is still searching for its first win. India’s recent performances have included a draw with Mauritius and losses to Syria and Vietnam, highlighting a challenging start for Marquez.
The Gachibowli Stadium, which recently hosted the Intercontinental Cup, offers a familiar backdrop for the team, although they struggled in that tournament with a goalless draw against Mauritius and a 0-3 defeat to Syria. India managed a 1-1 draw against Vietnam last month, continuing a streak of near misses.
Despite sitting at 125th in the FIFA rankings, just above Malaysia at 133rd, India will be looking to reverse their fortunes after a 4-2 loss to Malaysia in their last meeting during the Merdeka Cup semifinal in October 2023. The upcoming match promises to be a closely contested affair.
