Tragic Collision in Khanapara Claims Two Lives, Injures Others

A head-on collision between two SUVs in Khanapara, Guwahati, resulted in two fatalities and injuries to others, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving on GS Road.

Guwahati: A devastating car accident in Khanapara, Guwahati, on Friday morning has claimed the lives of two individuals and left others injured. The collision occurred on GS Road when a white SUV, attempting a U-turn near the Assam Rifle Transit Camp, collided head-on with a black SUV traveling from the opposite direction, according to police reports.The force of the impact was so severe that the black SUV was propelled onto a footover bridge before crashing back down onto the road, breaking the iron railing of the bridge in the process. The dramatic scene left the vehicle mangled and severely damaged.Authorities identified the deceased as 22-year-old Deepat Dey and 19-year-old Konamika Narjaree, both occupants of the black SUV. The superintendent of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, Abhijit Sarma, confirmed that they were pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility.In addition to the fatalities, two other individuals sustained injuries in the crash. One injured female passenger was treated at the hospital and subsequently discharged. Another person involved in the accident also required medical attention, although their condition has not been detailed.Witnesses reported that the black SUV was traveling at a high speed just before the collision, contributing to the tragic outcome of the incident. Police noted that the occupants of the black SUV appeared to have come from a nearby bar, as entry bands were observed on their wrists.This tragic incident underscores the dangers of reckless driving and the urgent need for increased road safety awareness in the region. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision to prevent future tragedies.
