BTC Chief Pramod Boro unveils a statue of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in Kokrajhar, marking the cultural icon’s death anniversary. The event includes the launch of a souvenir and announcements for key development projects to promote Bodoland’s socio-cultural growth.

Kokrajhar:On November 5, the Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTC), Pramod Boro, unveiled a majestic statue of the iconic Assamese cultural figure, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, at Sudhakantha Kanan in Kokrajhar, on the occasion of his death anniversary. The event was a heartfelt tribute to the “Bard of Brahmaputra,” whose contributions to Assamese music, culture, and social integration have left an indelible mark on the region and beyond.BTC Chief Pramod Boro, in his address, emphasized that the statue was not only a tribute to Dr. Hazarika but also a symbol of unity, collective growth, and social harmony in the region. Boro highlighted the BTC government’s ongoing efforts to foster social cohesion among the diverse communities of Bodoland while ensuring their participation in the region’s socio-economic development.In line with these efforts, Boro announced a series of development initiatives aimed at strengthening the socio-cultural fabric of Bodoland. Among the key projects was the construction of a statue of cultural icon Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha in Tamulpur and the establishment of a Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Bhawan in Baksa, with an investment of over Rs. 10 crore. He also shared plans to translate over 200 of Dr. Hazarika’s songs into the Bodo language, a project to be carried out in Kokrajhar, reinforcing the BTC’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the region.The event also saw the launch of a commemorative souvenir, titled ‘Bhupendra Baibhav’, celebrating Dr. Hazarika’s legacy. Assam’s Minister for Textiles and Guardian Minister of Kokrajhar, UG Brahma, praised Dr. Hazarika’s timeless influence, reaffirming the BTC’s dedication to cultural preservation and community unity across Bodoland’s diverse ethnic groups.Distinguished dignitaries, including former Assam Sahitya Sabha president and ex-DGP Kuladhar Saikia, MP Jayanta Basumatary, MLA Lawrence Islary, and others, attended the unveiling ceremony. Saikia reflected on the statue’s significance, describing it as a powerful symbol of humanity and Dr. Hazarika’s global legacy that transcends borders and cultural divisions.The occasion underscored the BTC’s commitment to honoring its rich cultural heritage while striving for unity and progress across Bodoland.
