Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma targets Congress for dynastic politics, calling out Rakibul Hussain’s push for his son’s candidacy in Samaguri while contrasting it with BJP’s merit-based selection process.
Guwahhati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp critique against Congress MP Rakibul Hussain and his son Tanzil Hussain during a public address in Samaguri on November 7. Sarma accused the Congress party of promoting dynastic politics, claiming that Rakibul, once a Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri, was now backing his son’s candidacy for the Samaguri seat, sidelining other party workers with potential.
Sarma emphasized that while Congress appeared to prioritize family ties, the BJP’s candidate selection process was rooted in merit. He pointed to the example of Dipluranjan, BJP’s nominee for the bypolls, and asked the crowd rhetorically, “Does anyone know Dipluranjan’s father?” The Chief Minister argued that the BJP chose candidates based on their individual capabilities, not lineage.
Further mocking Congress’s approach, Sarma implied that if Samaguri voters were to inquire about the party’s future leadership, they would only hear about Rakibul’s son, suggesting that other party members were left in the shadows, perhaps “sipping Amul Milk” while the family monopolized the spotlight. The remarks underscored Sarma’s criticism of Congress’s alleged preferential treatment towards certain political families.
