Guwahati: A major case of land fraud has come to light in Dhubri district, where Sujit Sengupta, the Lat Mandal of Bidyapara Part-I, is accused of illegally manipulating land records to transfer ownership of land. The disputed land falls within the Dhubri Municipal area, and despite the seriousness of the allegations, local authorities have yet to take action.According to reports, Sengupta, allegedly with the help of other government officials, forged official land documents to remove the names of the original owners—Moshir Uddin Ahmed, Firoz Uddin Ahmed, and Mobin Uddin Ahmed—from the land register. The names of Moniruzzaman and five other individuals, heirs of the late Musa Miah, were falsely inserted in their place.This illegal transfer of land occurred despite prior court rulings, including T.A. No. 48/2009 and T.S. No. 5/2000, which were deliberately ignored during the manipulation of the records. Legal orders from the S.O. and A.S.O. of Dhubri, issued in 2015 and 2016, also bypassed the necessary legal provisions tied to the land, granted under the Periodic Khiraj Lease For Town Land (Final Patta).What makes this case even more alarming is that the original landowners were kept unaware of the fraudulent activities. It was later discovered that Moniruzzaman and other heirs of Musa Miah had suppressed vital legal documents, including a dismissal ruling from the Gauhati High Court on 15.06.2015, in their favor. Suppressing such documents constitutes a serious criminal offense.In response to the allegations, Tanvir Parves Ahmed, the son of one of the original landowners, Mobin Uddin Ahmed, has demanded immediate legal action against the individuals involved. He also raised concerns that financial motives may have driven Sengupta’s actions, suggesting a deeper layer of corruption tied to the case. The district administration’s failure to intervene has sparked further outrage, with calls for urgent investigation and accountability.
