Guwahati: Violence erupted in Samaguri during the ongoing Assam bypolls, with Congress MP Rakibul Hussain’s convoy coming under attack by a mob of individuals who chased the vehicles and raised slogans against the Lok Sabha representative. Amid the chaos, a journalist’s vehicle was also targeted by assailants in Salpara, who reportedly threw stones at the car, causing significant damage. The journalist had been following Hussain’s convoy when the attack took place.Simultaneously, at polling booths 89 and 90, accusations of violence surfaced as Congress supporters alleged assaults by BJP workers. Clashes broke out between party workers and police officers stationed at the booths to maintain order, further intensifying tensions in the area.In a separate incident, a pregnant woman was severely injured at polling booth No. 53 in Bajiyagaon. She was caught in a sudden surge of voters and suffered serious injuries. Emergency services transported her to Nagaon Medical College Hospital, where her condition is reported to be critical.Local authorities have increased security measures and are investigating the incidents to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process moving forward. The disturbances have raised concerns about the conduct of the bypolls in Samaguri, with authorities working to restore order in the area.
