Goalpara College Launches 30-Hour Self-Defence Training Program for Women

A 30-hour self-defence training course was inaugurated at Goalpara College, aiming to empower women with essential safety skills. The program is set to run over 30 days, with expert guidance from a certified Taekwondo coach.

Goalpara: A new initiative aimed at empowering women through self-defence training was officially launched today at Goalpara College. The 30-hour certificate course, which will be conducted over 30 days, is a collaboration between the Goalpara College Women’s Study Centre, GCTA Women’s Cell, and the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goalpara College Unit.The inauguration took place at the college field, with Dr. Subhash Barman, Principal of Goalpara College, formally launching the program. During his address, Dr. Barman emphasized the critical role of women’s empowerment in today’s society and stressed that self-defence training is a key factor in enhancing women’s confidence and ensuring their safety. His remarks were supported by the presence of other dignitaries, including the three Vice Principals of the college, the President of the Women’s Study Centre, the President and Secretary of GCTA, the IQAC Coordinator, and various faculty members, all of whom supported the initiative’s mission.The training sessions will be led by Nabin Chandra Rabha, a renowned Taekwondo instructor with a 2nd Dan black belt and certification in self-defence training. Affiliated with the Taekwondo Martial Arts and Sports Association of Assam, Mr. Rabha brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the program, promising an enriching and impactful learning experience for the participants.Dr. Yoshiko Bailung, Secretary of the Goalpara College Women’s Study Centre and GCTA Women Cell, also addressed the gathering. She underscored the importance of self-defence skills in today’s world, particularly for women, where personal safety and self-reliance are of paramount importance.The training has sparked significant interest, with 221 participants registered to take part. Over the next month, the sessions will focus on practical self-defence techniques, as well as building physical and mental resilience, aiming to equip participants with the tools needed to face challenging situations with confidence.This initiative reflects Goalpara College’s dedication to promoting holistic development and creating a more secure and empowered community for its students and beyond.
