Assam’s Chief Minister announces a Rs 24.5 crore initiative to enhance soil conservation, improve groundwater recharge, and support sustainable farming practices across the state.
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced a significant Rs 24.5 crore investment aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and promoting ecological sustainability through improved soil conservation techniques. Speaking on the initiative, Sarma emphasized the critical role of efficient soil management in enhancing agricultural output and fostering long-term ecological development.”The adoption of effective soil conservation practices is key to improving productivity and supporting sustainable growth. Our efforts are focused on ensuring sustainable soil management for Assam’s future development,” Sarma remarked.The initiative includes several key projects designed to strengthen the state’s agricultural capacity, enhance groundwater recharge, and promote ecological restoration. Notable projects include the Batabari Wetland Development and an Integrated Water Harvesting and Erosion Control project in Tiokai-Kazigaon, which aim to safeguard water resources, improve farming practices, and mitigate climate change impacts.These projects will implement advanced techniques such as land and water treatment systems for sustainable farming, groundwater recharge infrastructure, and extensive reforestation efforts. To ensure transparency and effectiveness, the plan will involve district-level monitoring, GIS-based tracking, quarterly progress reports, and independent evaluations.
