Centre Allocates Nearly ₹200 Crore for Revamping Assam’s Rang Ghar and State Zoo

Guwahati: The Centre has granted nearly ₹200 crore for the development of two of Assam’s most iconic tourist destinations—Rang Ghar and the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden. This funding comes under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, offering a major boost to the state’s tourism sector.Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his appreciation for the approval, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the initiative. On his official X account, CM Sarma wrote, “Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving close to ₹200 crore to develop Assam’s two iconic tourist sites—Rang Ghar and State Zoo under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment.”The Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden in Guwahati will receive ₹97.12 crore, while ₹94.76 crore has been allocated for the beautification of Rang Ghar in Sivasagar. CM Sarma praised the initiative, highlighting that these sites are now set to be developed to international standards.
