Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma invites former top cops to share Assam Police’s achievements at a reunion in Guwahati, fostering connections between veterans and serving officials for future improvements.

Guwahati:Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called on retired senior police officers to act as ambassadors for Assam Police, sharing its recent achievements beyond the state. Speaking at the first-ever reunion of Assam Police chiefs, held in Guwahati on December 8, Sarma emphasized the importance of leveraging the experiences of retired officials to enhance the performance of the police force.The event, which brings together former officers from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre of the Indian Police Service (IPS), provides an invaluable opportunity for serving officials to learn from their seniors. Sarma highlighted that the reunion would span several days, during which the veterans would interact with current officers at various levels, sharing their insights and knowledge.“By learning from the veterans, our police force will be able to further improve and showcase our success stories to the nation,” Sarma said. He added that the retired officers would be briefed on the accomplishments of the Assam Police in recent years, enabling them to promote these successes when engaging with other states.The two-day event is marked as a significant occasion, with the participation of former Assam Police chiefs and officials who have headed central armed police forces and organizations. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya is expected to attend the concluding session on December 10. This initiative is seen as a step towards strengthening the Assam Police’s national reputation and fostering better policing practices.
