Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently shared key updates on the state’s ongoing infrastructure development, emphasizing the extensive progress made in road construction and connectivity. According to CM Sarma, the state government has successfully built over 31,800 kilometers of roads and over 1,400 bridges under various developmental schemes aimed at enhancing the state’s infrastructure.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, CM Sarma described these accomplishments as a cornerstone of the “Assam Growth Story,” underscoring the government’s commitment to improving transportation and connectivity throughout the state.

In his statement, the Chief Minister said, “Improving connectivity in every nook and corner of the State has been the cornerstone of the Assam Growth Story.” He added that a total of 9,066 roads spanning 31,869 kilometers have been constructed, alongside 1,401 bridges, which are expected to significantly enhance transportation infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s efforts to enhance rural connectivity, noting that geo-tagging has been completed for 4,125 habitations with populations of 250 or more. Furthermore, 3,322 habitations have been approved for development under the PMGSY-IV scheme by the State Rural Roads Development Agency.

In addition, the “PM – Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan” initiative has identified 834 habitations across 652 villages, along with 543 habitations in aspirational districts, further boosting the rural infrastructure development drive.

In a significant development earlier this week, CM Sarma performed the Bhumi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for the Loh Purush Bishnuram Medhi Setu, a new bridge linking Palasbari and Sualkuchi. The 12.2-kilometer-long bridge, the eighth bridge over the Brahmaputra River, is expected to improve connectivity between these vital areas, fostering economic and social growth in the region.

The ongoing infrastructure projects reflect Assam’s continued focus on connectivity, which is crucial for driving growth, improving livelihoods, and facilitating ease of travel for its residents.
