Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announces the state’s GSDP will rise to ₹6.43 lakh crore by 2024-25, highlighting its strong economic growth and improved financial management.
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently took to his official X handle to share the state’s remarkable economic progress, announcing that Assam’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is on track to reach ₹6.43 lakh crore by 2024-25, up from ₹1.77 lakh crore in 2013-14.The Chief Minister highlighted that Assam’s debt-to-GDP ratio remains lower than the national average, underscoring the state’s prudent financial management and sustainable growth. The steady rise in GSDP reflects Assam’s development across various sectors and its role as a key player in India’s broader economic growth.Earlier this year, in June, CM Sarma noted the state’s consistent economic progress since 2021, positioning Assam as a growing and robust economy. “The growth we are witnessing is building the foundation for a developed Assam,” he said, reaffirming his government’s commitment to further enhancing governance and development.Additionally, CM Sarma shared several key statistics reflecting Assam’s economic achievements. For 2023-24, the GSDP is projected at ₹5.70 lakh crore, with a per capita income of ₹1,35,787. Assam’s nominal economic growth rate for 2022-23 was 19.9%, surpassing the national average of 16.1%. The state’s budgetary expenditure for 2022-23 stood at ₹1.27 lakh crore, with a capital expenditure of ₹16,338 crore.On the social front, Assam’s poverty headcount ratio has significantly decreased to 14.47% from 36.97%. The Chief Minister also noted that externally funded projects in the state are valued at ₹58,064 crore, further bolstering the region’s development.
