Union Minister Kiren Rijiju criticizes Congress for altering the Constitution’s core values and for neglecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Bharat Ratna during its tenure.
Guwahati : Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, sharply criticized the Congress party on Saturday, accusing it of undermining the Indian Constitution and changing its foundational values. His remarks came during a Lok Sabha debate commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption.Rijiju specifically condemned the Congress for allegedly modifying the Constitution’s preamble and altering its essence. “You have attacked the Constitution, changed its preamble, and altered the very soul of it. How can you blame others for this?” he stated.Addressing concerns raised by the opposition about the safety of minorities, the minister highlighted India’s long-standing role as a refuge for oppressed communities. “Whether it’s Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Tibet, or Myanmar, India has always welcomed minorities facing persecution. Sikhs, Hindus, and Christians have found protection here, so why question minority safety in our own country?” he argued.Rijiju also took Congress to task for not awarding Dr. B.R. Ambedkar the Bharat Ratna during its time in power. “You often refer to Baba Saheb, yet it was only under the government of VP Singh, with BJP support, that he was honored with the Bharat Ratna. Meanwhile, Nehru Ji and Indira Gandhi were given the award during their tenure,” Rijiju pointed out.
