Guwahati: On December 15, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma voiced strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent speech in Parliament, stating that Modi had “shown Congress the mirror” by exposing its past actions. Sarma emphasized that Modi’s statements were not exaggerated, but instead based on documented events. The Chief Minister referred to several controversial incidents in Congress’s history, such as allegations surrounding the treatment of Sitaram Kesri, who was reportedly “locked in a bathroom,” and the contentious rise of Sonia Gandhi to party leadership. Sarma declared, “Congress ko dho dala” (Congress has been thoroughly defeated), reinforcing that the Prime Minister’s remarks were rooted in historical facts.During the two-day constitutional debate in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi accused Congress of systematically undermining constitutional values, particularly during the emergency period. Sarma agreed with Modi’s statement, particularly his assertion that one Congress family had caused significant harm to the Constitution, adding that the Prime Minister’s speech provided a clear reflection of Congress’s actions during its time in power. The Chief Minister stressed that Modi’s remarks were not mere political rhetoric, but a factual account of the party’s past, challenging the opposition’s credibility and narrative.
