Guwahati:The family of Mridul Islam, a deceased Congress worker and senior advocate, has demanded an investigation into his death, which occurred during a protest at Raj Bhavan on December 18. Islam’s funeral was attended by hundreds in Kichmat Katmi, Boko, with prominent figures including Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Borah and several MLAs like Rekibuddin Ahmed, Nandita Das, and Zakir Hussain Sikdar.APCC President Bhupen Borah strongly criticized the BJP-led government, accusing it of running the state on borrowed funds. He reiterated the Congress party’s call for a judicial probe into the circumstances surrounding Mridul Islam’s death, and demanded a personal apology from the Chief Minister to the grieving family. Borah further questioned the Chief Minister’s silence on the incident, insisting on accountability from the state’s top leadership.
