In response to potential disturbances, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Police District, Guwahati, has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Surakshya Sanhita, restricting public gatherings of more than five people near the Dispur Capital Complex.
Guwahati: In an effort to uphold law and order, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the East Police District in Guwahati, Mrinal Deka, has issued a prohibitory order for the Dispur Capital Complex. The decision comes in response to concerns over possible disruptions caused by protests, demonstrations, or public gatherings that could disturb office operations, traffic flow, and public movement.
Authorities are particularly worried that planned agitations or slogan-shouting activities could disrupt the region’s peace. To prevent any disturbances, the Deputy Commissioner has invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Surakshya Sanhita, 2023, alongside a 2014 Government of Assam directive.
The order, effective from December 19, 2024, prohibits any gathering of more than five people within a 1-kilometer radius of the Dispur Capital Complex unless prior approval is granted by the appropriate authorities. This measure aims to maintain smooth operations and public order in the area.
